I was in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007 and it seems like after that PT just went straight out the window. It wasn’t until early 2013 when a friend of mine asked me about GORUCK that I started to get back into working out. I was pushing 220 lbs and squeezing into a tight size 38 waist. I had started running and going to the “globo gym” down the road, but after a month it got boring. Everywhere I looked for info about GORUCK people were doing CrossFit. CrossFit this and WOD that. I had no idea what it was but I wanted to be part of it. Luckily though, by chance, I ran into Jarret Jones at the store. He was wearing his Basin CrossFit shirt and I asked him about the gym. He told be to come by and check them out. Well I went in blind and somewhat intimidated.

I have been attending classes at Basin CrossFit for 7 months now and will continue to go until my body doesn’t allow me to. CrossFit has got me back in shape and made me stronger. I am currently 195 lbs and wearing a size 34 waist. It has allowed me to complete 2 GORUCK events, a Light (6 hour event) and a Challenge (12 hour event). I have competed in the Europa CrossFit War Games in Dallas this past summer. CrossFit has showed me to keep pushing and to keep striving to be better than I was the day before.

The atmosphere there is amazing. Everyone helps to push each other. We feed off of the energy there. It’s amazing to see how CrossFit brings people together is ways that I haven’t seen since I was in the military. We all help push each other to our limit and then some. To become the best you have to surround yourself with the best and I truly believe that Basin CrossFit is just that, the best.
